Aloe Ferox is indigenous to South Africa and grows abundantly in the Eastern Cape region. The family-owned business that manufactuers the products are great people.
There is more than enough of this renewable resource to ensure that it does not need to be cultivated. It is a robust aloe that grows to over 2m high. Seven to eight leaves are harvested from the bottom of each plant each year without damaging the growth tip of this spiky, succulent plant.
The Aloe Ferox bitter sap is harvested in the Cape veld by freelance harvesters. This harvesting method has the advantage that harvesting can be done in the wild without doing any damage to the plants. Harvesters are careful to ensure that when the leaves are harvested, the plant is not harmed or destroyed so that the cycle of growth begins again from the original plant.
